LG OLED vs Samsung QLED – TV Technology Shootout

The names may look almost identical, but OLED and QLED are two entirely different beasts. In our QLED vs. OLED battle, we dissect the differences between these dueling TV technologies and help determine which might be best for you.

Samsung’s QLED line of TVs is a series coined by the company that means “quantum light emitting diode”. The branding is an attempt to distinguish this TV as Samsung’s most premium television and has the capacity to produce an image that’s brighter than an OLED TV.

With LG’s OLED TV, the image is produced by starting with perfect black. With true blacks being produced, it’s hard to beat the OLED in terms of picture quality. The color is spot on straight out of the box, and its motion is smoother than the QLED.

  1. I have both and OLED "looks better" due to infinite contrast everything pops out of the screen but you might get Burn-in and the colors are not accurate. QLED for EVERYTHING ELSE, security, gaming, colors, brightness, PC monitor.

  2. I have 2 oleds 2015 model and 2018 model and pioneer elite kuro love all 3 , give Samsung some credit they have made some improvements, I still take my pioneer at 1080p over it .

  3. One unashamed advert for a company which does not sell expensive OLED panels, and instead relies on ancient and very cheap LCD tech, which in turn gives a massive profit. No way are these QLEDS worth the extortionate prices that are being asked. But here is Digital Trends doing their utmost to help. Wonder what the percentage is?

  4. -talks shortly about oled and ends with burn in
-talks twice as long about Qled(essentially SUHD quantum dots, if it was called that, less people would be confused) and ends with all the stunning smart features on samsung, which are pretty much identical on OLED tv’s
True Qled has an initial WOW factor but for longer term viewing, most people will absolutely prefer OLED for a more realistic picture.
Furthermore, sure samsung’s smart system looks great, but i can’t count how many people have come back to me and asked why their netflix or youtube app is gone from their samsung tv.
Not to mention, only the american q8 (the european is edge lit) and the global q9 can compete with oled on picture quality, however oled’s in the Netherlands go for as cheap as €1300, while the Q9 goes for about €3200 lol easy decision

Oled is better for black levels and viewing angles but if you watch anything but nonstatic content, you will get burn in. It's not rare. Qled is better for brightness and color, but it is disgustingly overpriced and suffers from over dimming.

  6. Man you guys sound like Samsung gave you a paycheck. Picture quality is everything when you’re paying this much for a tv. And most people watching this only want to see who has the better picture quality.
